The Capitol, formerly known as the ‘Capitol Theatre’, was the first extravagant picture theatre to be built in Victoria. Designed by Walter Burley Griffin and Marion Mahony Griffin it first opened its doors in 1924 and is considered to be their interior masterpiece. After being mothballed in 2014, the RMIT University owned building underwent a $20m+ restoration after falling into disrepair. Between June 2018 until before the public opening in June 2019 I had access to document the restoration of the building.
